Shopping Foray

I made 2 visits to a little grocery store up the street from where I'm staying. Wanting to see what else was available, I took a lengthy (and sweaty!) walk up the street that I believe is called Meiji Dori. After about 15 minutes, I spied another grocery store called Santoku. Walking in, I hear one of Vivaldi's Four Seasons play and crossed my fingers that it wouldn't be too pricey.

You don't have to speak the language when thankfully, pictures are on the products! I don't want to make a habit of eating out all the time. I especially wanted to have some items on hand for breakfast. So, for 1587 Yen (approx. $21) this is what I picked up:

Salad for lunch, ham, cheese, English muffins, yogurt, what I'm hoping is margerine or butter!, sugar sticks and of course my Blendy stick, aka coffee :)

  1. Please bring some Blendy Stick with you when you come home for Christmas! I love foods from different countries!

    I hope you're having fun!

  2. Thanks for leaving a comment! It so nice not to see a zero :)

Will definitely be bringing some interesting items back. It's the "Engrish" (and that is an actual word that describes Japanese English) that makes shopping an adventure. This morning I toasted my muffins in a sauce pan--need to get frying pan so that next time I can make some eggs!

  3. Just keep posting about everything. I think some people are also reading your Facebook, like me, or just emailing you. Is a Blendy Stick coffee??

  4. Yes, it's like those instant cappucino's that Nestle makes even at home :)

Besides, if I really miss "America" there are Starbuck's literally all over the place!

  5. That is not very much food for twenty bucks! I once went to a little market in Germany and bought what I thought was fruit juice (by the picture) but was really lemonade beer. So... careful about picture buying! I thought it was weird that the juice had a beer head on it.

  6. Only you Pam! Actually, alcoholic beverages are all placed together :) As for what 20 bucks can get you? I just have to remember that I'm in one of the most expensive cities in the world! That 20$ shopping foray should make for about 6-8 breakfast/snacks!
